Course Description
Court reporters have both professional and personal interest in health insurance. Many reporters take depositions that involve insurance disputes, and a number of reporters are self-employed and must procure their own health insurance. Part 1 of this course addresses the reporter's professional interest in insurance - it explains the types of risks that can be insured against, elements of insurance contracts, legal organization of commercial insurers, state regulation of insurance, the history and evolution of health insurance in the United States (5 hours, IL core). Part 2 of this course explains how Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) coupled with High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) can save money for the self-employed. Supplemental accident insurance is also discussed and detailed examples are provided (2 hours, IL noncore).
