General Questions
What is a CEU?
One CEU is equivalent to 10 contact hours. Therefore, 0.3 CEU is equivalent to three contact hours. For a live seminar, there will be one hour of class time for each 0.1 CEU of credit. Likewise, for a correspondence course, you should expect to spend approximately one hour for each 0.1 CEU of credit, including the course quiz.
May I register a friend or family member for a live seminar?
In past live seminars, court reporters have brought up this question. When space is available, you may register someone who is not a court reporter. We generally charge a lower fee for attendees who do not need continuing education credits. In one instance, a person in another profession was able to submit the course outline to her licensing board and obtain continuing education credits for our live seminar! If you are interested in bringing someone who is not a court reporter to a live seminar, please contact me regarding availability of space and pricing.
Do health education seminars offer medical or nutritional advice?
No, they most definitely do not. The sole purpose of seminars and courses on health topics is to educate, not advise. The courses we offer address topics that affect health. We present balanced opinions from experts who often do not agree with one another. You must consult your healthcare providers for medical and nutritional advice.
May I send a check instead of paying online?
Yes, you may send a check to Patricia A. Lynch, P.O. Box 386, Whiting, IN 46394. Please reference the class you wish to take. We will email the course to you or send you a diskette via US mail.

NCRA
Do I have to pay a fee to NCRA for live seminars or correspondence courses I take from Patricia A. Lynch?
For live seminars, the NCRA fee is included in your course registration fee, and we will notify NCRA of your participation. For correspondence courses, we will send you two copies of your Certificate of Completion and an NCRA registration form. If you desire NCRA credit for a correspondence course, send one copy of the Certificate of Completion with the NCRA registration form and NCRA's fee of $40 per course. All courses are pre-approved by NCRA.

State Issues
Do these courses count towards continuing education requirements in states other than Illinois?
A number of states that have a continuing education requirement for license renewal accept courses that are approved by NCRA. All coursework offered by Patricia A. Lynch is approved by NCRA. Please check with your state licensing board to verify eligibility.
What if I am licensed in more than one state?
On the registration form, please indicate each state in which you are licensed. We will issue duplicate Certificates of Completion or Certificates of Attendance for you to use in each state in which you are licensed.
For states in which continuing education is a prerequisite for license renewal, do I need to submit Certificates of Attendance or Certificates of Completion to the state?
Please check with the organization that is responsible for license renewal in your state. In some states, court reporters merely sign a statement that they have completed the state's continuing education requirements. The reporter may be randomly selected for an audit, in which case the reporter must produce Certificates of Attendance or Certificates of Completion to verify compliance with continuing education requirements. In other states, certificates must be submitted with the renewal application.

Certificates and Records
How long do you maintain records of course completion?
We maintain records of completion for a minimum of five years for all types of courses - live seminars, in-house seminars and correspondence courses.
How do I obtain a duplicate Certificate of Attendance or Certificate of Completion?
Within five years of completing a continuing education seminar or course, if you need a replacement Certificate of Attendance or Certificate of Completion, please mail your request with a $5 fee per certificate to cover administrative costs to:

Patricia A. Lynch
P.O. Box 386
Whiting IN 46394

For downloadable seminars, what is the date on my Certificate of Completion?
The date that appears on the Certificate of Completion for downloadable seminars is the date of the postmark on the envelope in which you return the quiz that is required for you to receive credit.

Correspondence Courses
What is the estimated time commitment to complete a correspondence course?
You should expect to spend approximately one hour of time for each 0.1 CEU of credit for a correspondence course.
Will I be able to print the correspondence course file on my printer?
Yes, you will be able to print the downloadable file. The file is a 'pdf' file, which stands for portable document format. The free Adobe Acrobat Reader program is pre-installed on virtually all IBM-compatible personal computers and PCs, which allows you to print files that are in 'pdf' format. Files in 'pdf' format will look exactly the same no matter what type or brand of printer you have.
What is Acrobat Reader?
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program that usually comes pre-installed on IBM-compatible PCs and laptops. The Acrobat Reader allows you to open and print 'pdf' (portable document format) files from other sources. You can recognize portable document format files by their file extension, i.e. filename.pdf. Our courses can be read by Acrobat Reader version 4 or higher. You may update your version of the Acrobat Reader software without charge at www.adobe.com.
What if I have trouble downloading or printing a file for a correspondence course?
If you have a problem downloading a course file, please contact us by e-mail. We will promptly return an e-mail containing the file attachment. If necessary, we will send you the course materials by mail. Rest assured, no client will be left behind!
How much time do I have to submit the quiz for a correspondence course?
You have 90 days from the date of purchase to return and pass your quiz to obtain credit for a correspondence course.
What score do I need to pass the quiz for correspondence courses?
The required score to pass a quiz for correspondence courses is 85%, but we know you will do much better than that! Key points on which you are likely to be quizzed are highlighted throughout the course material.
What happens if I do not pass the quiz for a correspondence course?
With the remarkable attention to detail that court reporters must have to do their job, this outcome is unlikely! However, if you do not achieve a passing score on the quiz, we will call or e-mail you and give you another opportunity to submit the quiz.
May I share the correspondence course materials with others?
Please think of the correspondence course file as a book that you have purchased. The material is copyrighted by Patricia A. Lynch. You may share your original copy of the book with others, but just as you do not want lawyers to make free, unauthorized copies of your original transcripts, please do not make free, unauthorized copies of our course materials for others! We plan to have a second Website available where e-books on various health topics can be purchased by the general public (including you, of course!). These e-books will be priced much lower than correspondence courses because we will not have the licensing, course fees and administrative overhead associated with continuing education courses.
May I submit suggested topics for correspondence courses or live seminars?
Please do. There are so many topics to choose from: cardiac health, asthma, allergies, diabetes, health issues for elderly parents, issues about children's health, etc. We welcome your suggestions.

Privacy
Do you share my personal data with any other firm that sells or markets products?
Absolutely not! We hate worrying about that ourselves, so we would never share (or sell) our customer list. Of course, if the big guys like NCRA or a state licensing body were to ask for our records, we would have to comply!
